Home Club:  Houston

Laura Spilman ’93 serves as Recording Secretary, her first role on the Federation Board. She served the Houston club as President, President-Elect, Past President, Corresponding Secretary and Fundraising VP since joining in 2019. She continues to serve the Houston club as liaison for a sub-group she created while president: “Sandwich Generation Support Network.” Members support each other and share resources while balancing parenting, spending increased time caring for their own parents/in-laws and coping with their passing.

After Laura earned a BBA in Marketing and her husband, Kirk Spilman ’95, earned a Petroleum Engineering degree, Kirk proposed under The Century Tree. They are thrilled their kids are Aggies, too! Sydney ’23 graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Neuroscience and minor in Public Health. She works in healthcare with plans to attend medical school and earn a master’s degree in Public Health. Kaden ’26 is studying Petroleum Engineering and is in the Petroleum Ventures Program. Kirk and Laura believe in paying it forward to future Aggies. They established endowed scholarships through The Texas A&M Foundation and Association of Former Students and are members of the Texas A&M Legacy Society.

Kirk’s career required frequent moves, which led Laura to become a “professional volunteer” after working full-time in the recruiting industry and non-profit economic development industry. She is a founding member of Parents for Improved Public Education (PIPEline), a student advocacy group formed in Spring Branch ISD in 2020. She served on multiple school board trustee campaign teams, a Texas House candidate’s campaign and continues to serve on PIPEline’s steering committee.

She served in leadership roles in multiple PTAs, booster clubs, sports teams and committees including Co-President, VP-Fundraising, VP-Membership, VP-Directory, Class Mom (eight years), Team Mom (baseball, gymnastics, basketball), Girl Scouts Co-Leader and Area Membership Coordinator. She chaired: Spirit Gear, Golf Tournament Fundraising, Gift Card Fundraising, School Supply Kit Program, Textbook Distribution, and other areas. She supported additional charitable activities through 100 Women of Memorial, Communities in Schools, Chilterns American Women’s Club International, and other organizations.

She is looking forward to meeting more Aggie Moms this year to support each other, all Aggies and the university we love!
